EXPERIENCE A WALKING TOUR LIKE NO OTHER!

Our walking tours are a great way to enjoy the pristine beauty of K'gari (Fraser Island) without having to carry a heavy pack all day!

These fully-inclusive, self-guided and supported walks provide a glamping-like experience for walkers/hikers who want to enjoy the thrills of walking and camping without carrying a heavy backpack. This hike includes all meals, snacks, drinks and a support guide who drops equipment off and assembles tents at the camps nightly!

Lake McKenzie 2-Day Walk with 1-Night Camping

This is the only walk that operates all year (except Dec/Jan). Enjoy walking pack-free through lush tropical rainforests, experience the total tranquillity of the untouched K'gari bush, and relax in the sparkling waters of Lake McKenzie as you enjoy the tranquil beauty of K'gari’s iconic Central Loop.

DAY 1 Walking Distance 10.7km
Following the ferry crossing, our 4WD transfer will drop you at the M7 point to start your walk, beginning with 3km to Lake McKenzie. Once you arrive, enjoy the stunning beautiful white sand beach & swim in the pristine freshwater perched lake. After lunch, embark on a 6.6km walk to Central Station with a stop at Basin Lake. Arrive at your set-up camp around 3.30 pm to enjoy cold drinks & a cheese platter. Dinner options include fish teriyaki stir-fry or chicken pesto/tomato pasta. Dietary options available, menu subject to change.

Note: composting toilets, running water and showers are available at Central Station.

DAY 2 Walking Distance 8.7km
Wake up in the beautiful rainforest and enjoy a continental camp breakfast to prepare yourself for the day ahead. After breakfast, embark on a 5.2km walk, exploring the untouched, lush and tropical rainforest before meeting your support guide at the M7 meeting point. From there, the 4WD will transfer you to the M8 point near Lake Wabby lookout where you'll enjoy a packed lunch. Following lunch, take a short 1km walk to Lake Wabby where you can enjoy a swim in the emerald waters and relax in the deepest lake on K'gari. Finally, walk 2.5km over the enormous sand dune from Lake Wabby, back through the forest to the Eastern Beach for your return 4WD transfer to the ferry for Hervey Bay.

Blue Lakes 3-Day Walk With 2-Nights Camping

On this K'gari Eco Adventure you'll experience five of the island's most beautiful pristine freshwater lakes. Once you head off on your walk you’ll experience bliss in the wilderness, walk through spectacular towering rainforests, and swim in freshwater blue lakes with sandy beaches.

DAY 1 Walking Distance 13.5 km
You'll be transferred in a 4WD to the K'gari (Fraser Island) Great Walk trailhead at Dilli Village, the starting point for your walk. A 6.5 km morning walk through spectacular forest to Lake Boomanjin is where you'll enjoy lunch. Continue your walk for another 7.2 km to Lake Benaroon where you'll find your camp ready for dinner and the night.

Note: composting toilets available, no running water (water provided from tour), no showers.

DAY 2 Walking Distance 14.1 km
Wake up to the peaceful serenity of the bush, enjoy a light breakfast and have a morning swim in the lake before starting the second day of your walk. In the morning, walk 7.5 km to Lake Birrabeen and continue to Central Station where your support guide will provide a cooked lunch. After lunch, walk 6.6 km to Lake McKenzie, passing through Basin Lake. Upon reaching Lake McKenzie, your support guide will have your camp set up. Enjoy a peaceful afternoon swim, watch the sunset, and sip on a cold beer or a glass of wine while enjoying snacks and nibbles. Your guide will have dinner prepared for you to cook and enjoy under the stars.

Note: composting toilets and running water available at Lake McKenzie hikers camp. No showers.

Day 3 Walking Distance 15.1 km

Wake up to an early morning sunrise on the beautiful and famous Lake McKenzie. Start your day with a fresh swim and a quick breakfast before beginning the final day of your walk. Embark on the 12 km walk to Lake Wabby & when you arrive enjoy a bush picnic lunch at the lookout before descending down to the sand dune and sparkling emerald lake. Take a relaxing swim in Lake Wabby and enjoy the sand dunes before finishing with a short 2 km walk to the Eastern Beach where your 4WD transfer awaits. You'll be transferred to the Kingfisher Bay jetty ready to board the 5 pm return ferry to Hervey Bay.

At the end of Day 1 and Day 2 you'll have time to relax & enjoy cold drinks & a cheese platter followed by dinner options of fish teriyaki stir-fry or chicken pesto/tomato pasta. Dietary options available, menu subject to change.

Rainforest Eco 3-Day Walk With 2-Nights Camping

Experience the most remote areas of K'gari's (Fraser Island) Great Walk. Our Rainforest Eco Walk guides you through lush tropical rainforest where you'll walk under some of the largest living trees on the island in the spectacular Valley of Giants. As you walk under forest giants from location to location, you'll explore sights such as incredible sand blows, the 75 Mile Beach and stunning lakes - Lake Garawongera and Lake McKenzie.

DAY 1 Walking Distance 18.5 km
Kick-start your day with a private 4WD transfer, accompanied by your support guide, on the ferry and over to K'gari. Begin your walk starting at M10, a meeting point along the K'gari Great Walk Track. The walk takes you through magnificent rainforest and lush tropical landscapes to the Valley of the Giants. Along the way, you'll be able to undertake two side walks. The first will take you to the Badjala Sandblow where you can admire endless landscapes, and the second is the Giant Satinay tree walk where you'll be able to explore one of the oldest living trees on the island. Overnight camping at the Valley of the Giants.

Note: there are composting toilets & running water near the walkers camp but there are no showers.

DAY 2 Walking Distance 15.6 km
Wake up in the lush rainforest among the tallest trees on K'gari as you start your morning with a fresh breakfast. Embark on a short 2.6 km walk to see the Tallowood tree, one of the biggest and oldest trees on the island. Next set off on your walk to the stunning tea-tree infused Lake Garawongera. Along the way there is an optional historical site 1 km that leads to Petrie's Camp which we recommend visiting. When you arrive at Lake Garawongera camp, your guide will have your camp set-up with wine & cheese waiting for you in the mesmerizing rainforest. Enjoy a nice dinner before a good nights rest.

Note: composting toilets and limited running water (tour provides water) near the walkers camp. No showers however there is a lake!

Day 3 Walking Distance 9.5 km

Have a refreshing morning swim in the lake before setting off on your last day. Walk from Lake Garawongera to Happy Valley on the eastern beach where you'll meet your guide. You'll then be driven down the famous 75 Mile Beach, through Eurong and onto Central Station where you'll stop to enjoy lunch. After lunch, walk through Pile Valley where your guide will transfer you to another meeting point along the track, and from there you'll walk into Lake McKenzie to the secret hikers' beach. Here you can relax on the beautiful white-sand beach and swim in the pristine freshwater perched lake. Your guide will then pick you up and drive you back to Kingfisher Bay Resort where you can relax at sunset over a drink before heading back to Hervey Bay.

At the end of Day 1 and Day 2, relax in your set-up camp with cold drinks and a cheese platter followed by dinner options of fish teriyaki stir-fry or chicken pesto/tomato pasta. Dietary options available, menu subject to change.

Experience glamping-inspired hiking without the heavy backpack!

These self-guided and supported hikes provide a glamping-like experience for hikers who want to enjoy the thrills of bush camping without carrying a heavy backpack. Hikers only carry a small day bag while walking, making the experience more relaxed.

  • Includes all meals (track snacks, complementary alcohol, cheese platter).
  • Guide support & private 4WD transfer to the trailhead and a pick-up at the end.
  • Maps, itineraries, and information provided.
  • Daily equipment drop off and camp set up (at designated hikers camps).
  • Group numbers range from minimum 2 to maximum 6 people, hiking alone is not recommended (however if you are a solo hiker you may book onto a hike if it already has a minimum of 2 people - this is not guaranteed).
  • Full camp setup, overnight tents, cooking and camping equipment provided.
  • All hikes run from March to October.

Note: bush drop toilets, no showers, no electricity 

What's included?

ALL FOOD AND BEVERAGES

All meals and drinks (breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks & nibbles, complimentary glass of red, white wine or beer with dinner), water will be available to refill walkers bottles in camp.

4WD TRANSFERS & FERRY

From Hervey Bay to K'gari and to the meeting points on the Great Walk track.

PICK-UP & STORAGE 

Hervey Bay accommodation pickups, vehicle parking & storage of larger bags at the mainland office.

CAMP SET-UP

Camp set up and meal preparation as well as National Park permits and fees. Tents and equipment - sleeping bags, comfy sleeping mats, camp pillows & pillow slips are all included.

 SUPPORT GUIDE

On the ground support guide, set-up OF tents and carry/drop-off overnight bags at camp.

What to bring?

SUITABLE SHOES

You'll be on our feet a lot so it's important to ensure you have hiking boots that are good quality, with ankle support.

OVERNIGHTBAG

A small bag that will be transferred by your guide with your belongings needed at the hikers camps for night use. This could include: sleeping bag liner, warm overnight clothes, pillow (we provide a blow up camp pillow and slip), easy dry towel, spare change of clothes. No suitcases - soft bags only.

PORTABLE CHARGER

Portable charger to charge phone/camera as there will be no access to electricity on the island.

PERSONAL TOILETRIES

Personal toiletries & prescribed & general medicines as approved by your Doctor. Insect repellent, sunscreen etc.

DAY PACK

A small back pack to carry during the day with items such as your camera, phone, swimmers, towel, torch, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, insect repellent, reusable water bottle approx. (1.5 ltr).

TORCH

A head torch is recommended (we provide small lanterns around camp).

Safety 

K'gari Walking Tours take safety seriously and know that K'gari is a remote wilderness and precautions need to be taken. This is why we don't let hikers walk solo, we ensure our hikers stay in groups and always have eyes on each other. We also use the Garmin Rino 2-Way Radio/GPS Navigator with Sensors for our pack-free hikers to communicate with the guide or use in an emergency. These devices also have GPS navigation so our team can locate you in an emergency.
