Adventure Hiking Package

Experience adventure hiking across K'gari!

Hikers navigate their way through some of the most iconic sights of the K'gari Great Walk Track. Our Adventure Hiking Packages include 4WD transfers from Hervey Bay, hiking backpacks and camp equipment. Hikers organise their own lightweight food and carry all equipment. We offer 2-day, 3-day and 4-day hiking itineraries.

  • Hikers carry 70Lt  hiking packs with all food and utilities (e.g. tents, cookers).
  • Includes a 4WD transfer to the pickup and drop off locations.
  • Doesn't include any outside help or support during the hike.
  • Group numbers range from min 2 to max 6 people, hiking alone is not recommended (however if you are a solo hiker you may book onto a hike if it already has a minimum of 2 people - this is not guaranteed).
  • Hiking equipment provided (e.g. backpack, tent).
  • All hikes run from March to October.
  • Bush drop toilets, no showers, no electricity.

We offer three unique adventure hikes, varying in length and complexity, tailored to show you the diversity of K'gari.

 

What's included - K'gari Adventure Hiking Package

Cooking Equipment - you'll be supplied with all the equipment needed for you to be cooking under the stars i.e. gas cooker, bowl, cup etc.

Camp Equipment - you'll have a 2 person tent and a sleeping mat for your nights.

70 LTR Hiking Pack - we'll provide you with a hiking back pack to carry all your belongings in.

Maps - we give you maps and itineraries to follow.

Ferry and 4WD Transfers - we arrange and transfer you from Hervey Bay to K'gari (return) and to the meeting points on the Great Walk Track.

Detailed Information - safety briefing, hiking information, and walkers camp permits are included.

What To Bring

Suitable Shoes - as you will be walking distances over tracks and sand, we recommend you wear good quality hiking boots with ankle support. You may also bring walking poles if needed.

Clothes - you only need a small amount of personal belongings (lightweight clothing, hat, sunglasses, swimmers, towel). Rember your personal toiletries and medications.

First Aid - include a small first aid kit, sunscreen, insect repellent, and water purification kit.

Torch - we recommend a head torch (we provide small lanterns around camp).

Water Bottle - larger (1.5 LTR) bottle to carry water.

Food - bring lightweight food for all days on the hike.

Portable Charger - as there is no electricity on the island, bring a portable charger for your phone/camera.

Safety

K'gari is a remote wilderness with limited mobile coverage and therefore precautions are taken for your safety. Hikers are not permitted to walk solo and must stay in groups with eyes always on each other. We also provide adventure hikes with the SPOT GEN 3 which is a satellite GPS messenger, that can send updated locational information back to base or be activated in an emergency situation.

K'gari Adventure Hike - 3 Days Coast to Coast

Take the challenge and adventure of this 3-day and 2-night Coast to Coast hike! As the name states, this adventure leads you to hike from the east coast to the west coast of K'gari.

Enjoy world famous Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby as you hike across diverse landscapes. Experience spectacular towering rainforest, pristine freshwater lakes, amazing sandblows, and great scenic views.

Day 1 - 4.1 km Lake Wabby
Day 2 - 12 km Lake McKenzie
Day 3 - 13.8 km Kingfisher Bay Resort

Moderate fitness level and walking experience is required

K'gari Adventure Hike - 3 Days Southern Lakes

Explore the Great Southern Lakes section of the K'gari Great Walk, on this 3 day and 2 night Adventure Hike. This hike explores five perched freshwater lakes: Lake Boomanjin, Lake Benaroon, Lake Birrabeen, Basin Lake and Lake McKenzie, with countless swimming opportunities.

As you walk, enjoy the quiet wonders of the tracks as you explore ancient rainforests and pristine lakes. Be some of the only people to enjoy an epic sunrise and sunset at Lake McKenzie, an unforgettable memory. This hike also has the option to extend an additional night to explore the Pile Valley area.

Day 2 - 14 km Central Station and Lake McKenzie

K'gari Adventure Hike - 4 Days Valley of the Giants

SEE THE OLDEST AND MOST SIGNIFICANT TREES ON K'GARI!

Embark upon an amazing 4-day/3-night hike where you walk under some of the largest living trees on K'gari in the spectacular Valley of the Giants. Part of the hike is dedicated to exploring the two largest trees on the Island - the Giant Satinay and the Giant Tallowood.

The remaining time of the hike is dedicated to swimming in K'gari's must do perched lakes - Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby. As you walk under the forest giants from location to location, you will pass through incredible stands of brush box and satinay trees, open forest, heathland and untouched rainforest.

Day 2 - 16.1 km Lake Wabby
Day 3 - 12.8 km or 22.8 km Lake McKenzie
